You know how you always wish your favorite movie characters could come to life IRL? Well Hugh Mitchell, the actor who played Colin Creevey in the Harry Potter movies, actually made it happen, sort of. After playing a spunky photographer on screen, Mitchell became a photographer IRL, just like his adorable HP character. (A character who maybe shouldn’t have died, according to the actor.)
Mitchell is just as passionate about photography as Colin Creevey!
When Harry and Colin first come across each other in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, we immediately learn that Colin is a star photographer. (At least in his mind!) Though he is very clearly a bit of a Harry Potter fanatic, throughout the series, he really proves himself to be a true Gryffindor.
“I’m in Gryffindor too! D’you think – would it be all right if – can I have a picture?” he adorably asks Harry when they first meet.
His pictures are simply stunning!
Alas, Colin tragically meets his fate during the Battle of Hogwarts in the final Harry Potter book. Like a true Gryffindor and friend to Harry, he fought until the very end, camera in hand.
Of course, it’s not all that bad for Mitchell. We love that he’s carrying on Colin’s legacy! According to his Instagram bio, he dabbles in acting, music, and outdoor photography.
Oh, Colin Creevey! We certainly hope the role of a lifetime inspired his real life hobby. HP forever.
