Harry Potter producer extraordinaire David Heyman has been teasing Fantastic Beasts 2’s links to the Potterverse.
We already knew that the sequel would have Jude Law playing the iconic Albus Dumbledore, while the arrival of significant Harry Potter character Nicolas Flamel has been recently teased.
But it seems there are many more goodies for Harry Potter fans to discover in Fantastic Beasts 2, although you don’t have to have even watched the series to enjoy the sequel.
“I think the pleasure of these Fantastic Beasts films is that they’ll work on their own terms. You don’t need to know Harry Potter to enjoy them, but if you do, you have another layer, another level to enjoy,” Heyman told Digital Spy.
“I’m very excited as more nuggets drop and audiences respond. Fans will be incredibly excited. This next film is different to the first, but each film will march to its own beat and have its own tone. I don’t yet know if the series will get darker, although all of them will be fun and entertaining.”
Given that Fantastic Beasts 3, 4 and 5 are already planned, it sounds like we’ve got a whole lot of Harry Potter Easter eggs and links to look out for – and we can’t wait.
Harry Potter isn’t the only national treasure that Heyman has been working on as he also produced Paddington and its upcoming sequel, and he’s let us in on the key to successfully following up a big hit.
“When making a sequel, it’s not about making a remake of the first one, it’s allowing it to find its own voice. With Paddington 2, [director] Paul King is essential to that. My feeling is that you just mustn’t patronise your audience,” he explained.
“One of the reasons for the success of the Potters is that Jo knows her world inside and out, a richly conceived world, but she never thought she was writing a children’s book. She was writing a book that she would enjoy.”
Paddington 2 is released in UK cinemas on November 10 and US cinemas on January 12, 2018. Fantastic Beasts 2 Will be released in cinemas on November 16, 2018.
